Reporting and BI on SQL Server, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric

Reporting and BI on SQL Server, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and paginated reports, from financial statements and operational dashboards to the data models underneath.

Scope

What this covers.

Good reporting starts underneath the visuals. We model the data — ERP general ledger, inventory, sales, and operational tables — so that financial statements, operational dashboards, and paginated reports agree with each other and with the source system. Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and SSRS paginated reports are the delivery layer; SQL Server and the data model are where the correctness comes from.

Because the same practice builds the integrations and knows the ERP processes, reporting work can reach into the transactions behind the numbers: why a balance moved, where a cost came from, which trading partner's orders are stuck. I've built Power BI financial reporting directly against ERP data and led BI teams in-house; the reporting layer is treated as part of the business system, not an afterthought.
